BIRD HUNTS

“Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me.”

-Genesis 27:3-

Argentina has the largest population of wild doves globally, and they are scattered across the entire country. The primary roosts for these prolific birds are located in Cordoba, Tucuman, and Salta. Fortunately for us, we have outstanding resources in all three areas. We also have a large population of both the big blue Picazurro and the spot-winged pigeons. Most international flights traditionally arrive in Buenos Aires and allow for a short (one-hour) connector flight into all of these areas. Our hunting facilities in Tucuman and Catamarca are both classy and comfortable, managed by Diego Guerineau, one of Argentina’s most reliable outfitters and an excellent wingshot himself. He is a well-organized and professional owner/operator,… Read More

The first of our pigeon and dove adventures is in the Province of Salta, Argentina, and only a short jet flight from Buenos Aires to the city of Salta, where you will be met by our team and escorted to the new lodge, nestled into the countryside. You will see tons of wild pigeons at this location, of both the spot-wing and Picazuro species, and as many doves as you will find anyplace on earth and stay in what we feel is the nicest of all the host lodges in Argentina. If you shoot as well as we think you do, you may qualify for the special trophy recognition at this lodge. Between shoots, there are other exotic critters to chase. The normal schedule calls for two half days and two full days, but we can easily accommodate additional days… Read More

The most popular area for dove shooting in Argentina during the past twenty years is Cordoba, right in the huge grain growing area that attracts millions of doves. More American and international hunters have hunted this province than all others combined. The government estimated more than 35 million doves in this area at one time. Although the doves are now ranging over a wider area of Argentina than in the past, Cordoba still has the largest number of annual hunting visitors than any other spot in the country.

You can arrive in Buenos Aires, transferring to the connector one-hour flight to Cordoba, or arrive directly in Cordoba. Some enjoy spending the first day in Buenos Aires, looking at the gigantic city known as the “Crown… Read More

Cold Bay, Alaska, is one of our favorite destinations for waterfowl hunting. The diversity of waterfowl species there is incredible, and its beauty is unsurpassed anywhere on earth. It’s a paradise for sportsmen, with abundant seafood for the table, snowcapped mountains to view, bears and wolves to witness, and wild rivers and seas to conquer.

At Cold Bay, in the middle of the Aleutian Islands, we hunt Brant and various sea ducks and fish for Silver salmon. Incredibly beautiful, this area is a perfect trip for couples or father/son/daughter trips. My son and I have taken this trip, and we have a memory of a lifetime to share due to this time together. It’s truly one of Earth’s extraordinary places. The facilities are a very… Read More

Although far from the city's bright lights, the province of Buenos Aires hosts some of the best duck hunting available in the world. In addition to hunting from May to August, when it’s summer in the USA, Argentina offers an exciting variety of ducks and lots of them. The shooting is done on freshwater sloughs and ponds on the vast acres of farmland in this area. You won’t find any mallards, but you will enjoy the rosy-billed pochards, yellow-billed pintails, Cinnamon teal, Chilean wigeon, white-faced, and fulvous whistling ducks, speckled teal, silver teal, spot-winged teal, and white-cheeked pintails. It’s a beautiful and interesting array of waterfowl and just as challenging as hunting ducks anyplace in the world.

Our next option for duck hunting is at Estancia Santa Rita, a historic Argentina ranch founded around the turn of the last century by a French cattleman. It is still operated by the descendants of this adventurer, who speak fluent English, and are extremely charming hosts. The ranch is beautiful, and the duck hunting can be among the best in the country when the weather conditions are right. There are lots of shooting options at this ranch, and you will often find as many different species as any spot in the country, including rosy-bill pochards, yellow-billed pintails, cinnamon teal, Bahamas pintails, speckled teal, Chilean widgeon, red shovellers, white-faced whistling ducks, and fulvous whistling ducks. Dinner is served back at the… Read More

Mexico

Probably the greatest wingshooting destination in North America, Mexico offers an extension of the migration template for many of our waterfowl. Around 90% of North America’s redheads and a significant number of our pintails, all three teal, lesser scaup, gadwalls, and widgeon head across the border, utilizing the Laguna Madre as their winter home. We have been hunting in Mexico for many years and recently have settled on a couple of operations on the eastern side of the country and one specific spot near the west coast. In addition to the ducks, the skies are full of specklebelly, blue, snow, and Ross’ geese and sandhill cranes. We are also hunting the wild Bob White quail in the eastern area. Many of… Read More
