Meet the Team

Don Terrell
Don Terrell founded Wings back in 1989 to help support his passion for sporting travel. It remained a hobby business for the first few years, but has grown into a nationally recognized sporting travel business.

Don is a graduate of Elon College (now University) in North Carolina, and after four years in the Air Force, including a stint in Vietnam, Don returned to the Carolinas, and joined a regional bank. Operating his business in the evenings for many years, he continued to work in banking until he retired in 2010, becoming the full time proprietor of Wings Inc.

A dedicated outdoors-man and hunting enthusiast, he has also taken a leadership role in several outdoor organizations. He is past South Carolina State Vice Chairman for Ducks Unlimited and is a Life Sponsor. He is also a Life Sponsor of the National Wild Turkey Federation. He is also a sponsor member of Delta Waterfowl and a participant in the Ultimate Waterfowler’s Challenge.

Byrd Smith
Byrd Smith started hunting at eight years old when his Dad bought him a single shot .410 and taught him how to hunt rabbits and squirrels. At 18, he began hunting big game and chasing wild wings, which grew into a passion for hunting and just spending time outdoors. Now, having hunted birds and big game on four continents and five Canadian provinces, he has developed a world of experience in our business. He met Don at Safari Club and booked his first hunt with Wings in 2006. He has been a traveling Wings client for the last 15 years and has hunted with Wings in Argentina, Mexico, and New Zealand. Byrd recently retired as vice president of Southeastern sales for Advantage Marketing Solutions, a major food marketing firm in Charlotte. He has joined Wings as a marketing team member, continuing his lifetime passion on a more formal basis. With his vast sporting and business experience and knowledge, he will be a great asset to Wings clients and friends in developing and booking trips around the globe. He will also be responsible for developing some big game adventures, a new arena for Wings involvement.

As a highly experienced hunting traveler, he knows that our sporting travel offers much more than just hunting trips. He understands the importance of the comradery developed while making new friends and spending time with old friends and family. He’s fully aware that these experiences of visiting new places, trying new foods, and laughing with new and old friends create memories of a lifetime. He is an Endowment Life Member of the National Rifle Association, Life Member of Safari Club, and a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, and the National Deer Association.

Mike Davis
Mike joined the Wings team in 2007 after his retirement from the trucking industry. Mike is a North Carolina native and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard Active Reserve. His trucking career began with McLean Trucking Company in 1963, which took him to Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, Indiana, New Jersey and back to Tennessee (Memphis).

In 1986, he took an executive position with a company in Camden and developed the Dedicated Fleet concept, which was quite successful. It was while living in Camden that he met Don Terrell, and quickly learned the two shared the same love of the outdoors and hunting. After he retired from a stellar career in the transportation industry, he joined Wings Inc. in 2007 and now works daily putting together hunting excursions for the Wings’ clients. Mike is married and is the proud grandparent of 6 grandchildren. He is an Eagle Scout, a member of the Camden Rotary Club, Camden Country Club and several local hunting and social clubs.

Memp Ward
Memp is a Camden, South Carolina native and lifelong outdoors-man who grew up on the family farm, hunting with his dad. After attending Anderson University he returned to Camden where he started a retail commercial development company specializing in shopping centers. After 25 years in real estate development he is now pursuing his passion and putting his 50 years of hunting experience to use with Wings, Inc.

Although Memp is an all around hunter, and will be working with our upland game and waterfowl hunting, he will also be our specialist in big game hunting. He has lots of experience in hunting elk and white-tailed deer, and will be developing our outreach in Canada, Alaska, and the American West.

 Having Fun since 1989

We have now been operating continuously over 30 years. The company was started by Don Terrell, a South Carolina banker, back in 1989, when he took his first international trip to Mexico. While hunting, he made an arrangement with the Mexican outfitter to find hunters for that operation, and found his first group before the season ended. Encouraged by this experience, he put together a group of hunters who traveled to Argentina for an exploratory trip. Although that particular trip was not a success, it provided the contacts in Argentina which encouraged him to try it again the following year. That next trip proved highly successful and the business has continued to grow from that auspicious beginning, to become a leader in American sporting travel. Now that Don has retired from banking, he devotes full time to Wings, Inc. and his other business and civic interests.

During these past many years, we have explored many opportunities for our client base, and have added a few and rejected many that did not meet the standards of service delivery we secure for our client friends.

We have many clients across the US & Canada and around the world, most of them having traveled with us multiple times. We have several clients who travel with us every year, and have been doing so since the early 90s. We will match our repeat business with anyone, and have the references to prove it. We cater to individuals, clubs, corporations, couples, ladies’ groups, and father-son or daughter groups. We customize every trip to satisfy your individual needs, and can arrange interesting schedules for non-hunting companions.
