LODGES

"If adventure has a final and all-embracing motive, it is surely this: we go out because it is our nature to go out, to climb mountains, and to paddle rivers, to fly to the planets and plunge into the depths of the oceans… When man ceases to do these things, he is no longer man."

-Wilfrid Noyce-

Carbonera, Tamaulipas, Mexico

Another of our prime locations for ducks, doves & quail in Mexico is the Palm Lodge, located right on the Laguna Madre in the town of Carbonera. This lodge is managed by Juan Olvera, a life long resident of San Fernando, Tamalipas, who is intimately familiar with the farmers and farmland in this valley and along the Laguna Madre. The lodge sits right on the Laguna, and after a full breakfast, you just walk across the street, hop in your boat, and you’re on the Laguna Madre. Juan has hunted this area all his life and enjoys success for white-wing dove shooting from August through the middle of October and duck and quail hunting from mid October to mid March. The hunts are held on wooden built blinds in the Laguna or on blinds made from the natural environment along the shores of the Laguna. He also has access to multiple fresh water ponds, used principally by the many pintails wintering on this huge estuary. The ducks are primarily pintails, wigeon & redheads, with a scattering of lesser scaup, gadwalls, mottled ducks, teal, whistling ducks, and ringnecks. The lodge for waterfowl hunting is equipped for up to eight hunters, in double occupancy, and the white-wing dove lodge, closer to the grain fields, currently handles six in double occupancy, with another double occupancy room in the planning stage. Expect three excellent meals daily, with an icy margarita awaiting you every time you return to the lodge from your hunt. The blinds are equipped with portable seating, complete with iced beverages inside. The quail are almost all wild Bob White quail. The doves, during the waterfowl season, are mourning doves.

You will need to arrive at the Harlingen, Texas airport, where the host team will meet you, escort you across the border, through Customs & Immigration, making a stop along the way for special beverages & other needed items, before driving you, on main highways, to the lodge. You will enjoy icy margaritas & snacks while the staff locates your luggage into your room. There are two hunting schedules to choose from. You can arrive on Sunday afternoon, hunting all day Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, returning to the Texas airport on Thursday morning, or you can arrive early Thursday for an afternoon shoot, all day Friday & Saturday, Sunday morning and back to the airport Sunday afternoon. Many of our clients arrive on Wednesday afternoon, overnight, at a local hotel and are ready for the host team to pick them up, either at the hotel or at the airport, to ensure plenty of time for a productive afternoon hunt. The cost for this three- day hunt is $2750 for white-wing doves and $4000 for ducks, doves or quail. The price includes transportation from Harlingen (TX) airport, escort through Customs & Immigration, all food & lodging & vehicular transportation in the hunting area, bird boys, guides, soft drinks, beer, limited open bar, licenses & permits & rental guns. It does not include airfare, shells & tips. Cash is appreciated for shells & tips paid in Mexico. All charges are in US$.

We suggest long sleeve camo shirts, fully brimmed hats & sun screen, since some days are warm on the Laguna Madre. You will need your passport for Immigration on both sides of the border. To acquire your hunting license, we ask for a copy of your driver’s license, which has all the information they need to issue the license. This is a comfortable and productive operation, which we know you will enjoy.
